Why am I here?

You’re here to gather information about hearing loss and maybe even hearing aids. You’re looking for explanations about what’s happening. You’re looking for help. You’ve come to the right place! I can take you to those places that will help.

What happens when we don’t hear well anymore is clear. Bad things happen.

We think we’re doing ok, by asking people to repeat, speak up, or faking that we understand, but we don’t. Think how this diminishes our humanity! Often people will withdraw and pretend it really doesn’t matter. It does! It’s just how they are coping with it. But it’s extremely unhealthy to leave hearing loss untreated. Consider these statistics.

With untreated hearing loss, loneliness is one of the greatest harms that comes from hearing loss. We don’t engage anymore because we can’t without great effort! Effort you don’t even realize you’re making. You get embarrassed by not hearing correctly, or people have gotten mad at you or you are afraid someone will know you can’t hear, so you don’t engage others any more. Loneliness is a huge factor, “research has linked social isolation and loneliness to higher risks for a variety of physical and mental conditions: high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, a weakened immune system, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease, and even death” read more www.Nia.Nih.Gov/news/social-isolation. People think there’s shame in not being able to hear well, so you stop listening one way or another. Did you know that some patients did not want to call for a doctor with COVID-19 because they were ashamed they were sick! Human nature folks!

Our brain changes after a while when we don’t hear.

The visual centers expand, while the auditory centers shrink. Once the auditory centers have gone so long without proper hearing, what happens when you put a hearing aid on, the sound goes to you brain but the train station has closed. You know what I mean! People wait too long to get treatment for hearing loss, and end up making it more of a struggle to get to hearing again, they think everything is “background noise”! No, its just life and they have been missing it!

Think about untreated hearing loss is gonna getcha’ with 30 to 40 percent greater decline in thinking abilities compared to those without or treated hearing loss. You are 3 times more likely to have a history of falling! There is greater a chance of hypertension, obesity, and ringing in the ears. Ninety percent of people with ringing in the ears also have hearing loss . You are more likely to be isolated and depressed. So its just the fact you cannot hear well, no big problem! Oh yeah it is!

That’s why you’re here. You know the facts now, and you’re starting the conversation!
